More than hair loss

The Chair That

Listens.

Turning barbershops into safe spaces for men's mental health.

Why the barber's chair

The conversation happenshere.

A haircut is one of the few times men sit still and talk. No pressure. No appointment with "therapist" in the title. Just conversation with someone they trust.

Barbers hear things that doctors, partners, and mates often don't. The "I've not been sleeping, mate." The "Just a lot on at the moment." The "Yeah, nah, I'm fine" that clearly isn't.

Most barbers already know how to listen. We want more men to know the barber's chair is a safe place to talk.

The truth

125 people take their own life in the UK every week.

Three quarters of them are men.

Not because men don't struggle. Because they don't say anything until it's too late.

Why we care

Because sometimes a
haircut is more than a haircut.

Men don't always talk about what's going on – but the barber's chair is one of the few places they might. We want them to know it's OK to, and we're giving barbers the resources to help when they do.

What we’re doing

Small training. Big difference.

We‘ve partnered with CALM to help barbers know what to do when someone opens up.

Every barbershop in our network displaying The Chair That Listens badge has completed our training – how to listen without judgement, and where to point someone if they need more help.

It’s not therapy. It's just knowing someone noticed. And sometimes that‘s enough.

If you’re a barber

You already hear things. Now you’ll know what to do.

The training is free – it’s in your barber portal. And it might change someone’s life.

Not partnered with & Other Ways? That’s fine. This is bigger than us. If you want to be part of The Chair That Listens, email support@anotherways.com and we’ll send you a pack.

If you're struggling

We built this for a reason.

If you're going through something – whether it's big or small, or you're not even sure what it is – you don't have to figure it out alone.

CALM's helpline is staffed by real people who'll listen without judgement. No scripts. No rush. Just someone on the other end who gets it.
